NIA likely to take over Jammu Air Force station blast case soon

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is soon likely to take over the Jammu Indian Air Force station blast case in the intervening night of June 26-27, the officials in the security set up said here on Sunday.

The Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbagh Singh confirmed on Sunday that the drone and pay load were used in this blast in the highly secured area of Jammu IAF station.

An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Satwari police station on the application of a junior warrant officer of the IAF, the official said.

An NIA team headed by its SP Rakesh Balwal also reached the blast sight in the technical area of Air force station and he will send a preliminary report to NIA headquarters in Delhi tonight or tomorrow, a senior security official said.

Once, the Union Home Ministry receives the NIA report, the probe will be handed over to them, he added.

In a first-of-its-kind attack in India, drones were used to airdrop explosives at the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Jammu which led to two low-intensity blasts in the wee hours of Sunday leaving two soldiers injured. The low-intensity blasts took place at around 0140 hours at the high-security zone of Air Force Station Jammu.

Two Air Force men WO Arvind Singh and LAC S K Singh have suffered minor injuries and were given first aid while there was no damage to any IAF assets. (UNI)
