Terror angle emerges in Bengaluru violence case, NIA begins probe

New Delhi:The National Investigation Agency has taken over the probe into the Bengaluru violence that occurred on August 11 in the city. 
"NIA took over the investigation of the two cases of arson and violence wherein Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act had been invoked by State Police, in which large scale violence had been caused by miscreants in DJ Halli and KG Halli PS limits of Bengaluru City on the night of 11.08.2020", the probe agency officials said on Tuesday.
 
A NIA team, headed by an IG-rank officer, is camping at Bengaluru in connection with the investigation of these cases.
 
This case was registered at Devarajeevana Halli Police Station in Bengaluru under various sections of IPC, The Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 and Karnataka Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act. 
 
At around 2000 hrs on August 11,  more than 1000 people gathered in front of the house of Congress MLA Naveen Srinivas Murthy (Pulakeshi Nagar constituency) at Kavalbyrasandra, Bengaluru City who were protesting against the derogatory social media (Facebook) post about Prophet Mohammed made by Mr Naveen, nephew of the MLA allegedly insulting the religious sentiments of the Muslims. 
 
The State Secretary of  Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) Muzamil Pasha had earlier called a meeting and directed the members of SDPI and Popular Front of India  to instigate the mob and incite violence. 
 
The mob went on the rampage in DJ Halli, KG Halli and Pulakeshi Nagar area under Bengaluru City and attacked the two police stations namely D J Halli PS and K G Halli PS and vandalized the property of police stations including Government and private vehicles parked in the Police Stations. 
 
It also attacked the house of Mr Naveen Srinivas Murthy, MLA, Pulakeshi Nagar constituency, Bengaluru City before attacking the police stations.(UNI)
