Odisha: Private tutor rapes 9-yr-old girl at her home, sentenced to 20 years RI by POCSO court

Kendrapara: Additional District & Sessions Judge –cum-Special Judge under POCSO Act, of Kendrapara, Prangya Parmita Raul, has convicted a private tutor and sentenced him to 20 years Rigorous Imprisonment(RI) along with a fine of Rs 50,000 for raping a nine-year-old minor girl.

The judge ordered that the convict would further undergo another year of imprisonment if he failed to deposit the fine amount, Manoj Kumar Sahoo, Special Public Prosecutor of Additional District Judge –cum-special judge(POCSO) said.

According to Sahoo, the convict, identified as Prasanta Das, a resident of Badahalupada under Rajkanika police station used to go to the minor girl’s house for private tuitions.

On December 22, 2022, at about 8 AM, the convict forcibly took the victim to the bed and raped her. The father of the victim lodged an FIR with Rajkanika police station.

The Rajkanika police had registered a case u/s -376(2)(f)(n),376AB of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act and arrested the accused tutor.

The court also recommended to the government to provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim for her proper rehabilitation.

The judge ordered that the Secretary of DLSA ,Kendrapara will take steps for sanctioning of the compensation amount to the victim, Sahoo said.
