An assistant engineer from Shyamakhunta block in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting several male students of a government-run tribal residential school.
The accused, identified as Prashant Kumar Senapati (45), had visited Bhanjabhumi Sanskrit Vidyalaya in Harishchandrapur village on Sunday to inspect ongoing development works at the school.
According to police reports, Senapati allegedly took nine hostel students to an under-construction toilet building under the pretext of inspection. Once there, he inappropriately touched the minors and threatened them not to reveal the incident to anyone.
Later, the traumatized students confided in the school headmistress, who immediately filed an FIR at the local police station. Following the complaint, police registered a case, detained Senapati for questioning, and subsequently placed him under arrest.
Authorities confirmed that the accused was produced before court, where his bail plea was rejected, and he was remanded to judicial custody.
