Odisha shocker! Dalit widow beaten to death over land dispute, 2 held

Kendrapara: A Dalit widow has been beaten to death by three fellow villagers over a long standing land dispute in Odisha's Kendrapara district.
 
The incident took place at Sahaspur village under Kendrapara Sadar police station on July 29 night, IIC of Kendrapara Sadar police station Saroj Sahoo said on Monday.
 
The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Hemalata Sethy of Sahaspur village.
 
The IIC said on Saturday night, Abhiram Mohapatra, his brother Arjun Mohapatra and Sunakar Mohapatra’s family members along with some relatives attacked Hemlata with iron pipes and pelted stones at her.
 
The Dalit woman was rescued by some fellow villagers and was rushed to District Headquarter hospital where the doctor declared her dead.
 
The Sadar police later on Sunday seized the body and sent it for autopsy at the hospital.
Two persons have been detained in connection with the incident.
