Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday carried out a major reshuffle of his two-year-old council of ministers by dropping 12 ministers, including Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Law and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and bringing in several new faces and elevating number of junior ministers. The exit of two big union ministers triggered a meme fest on the social media.

Altogether 43 ministers were sworn in by President Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The omission of senior leaders--Dr Vardhan, Mr Prasad and Mr Javadekar--in the first-ever cabinet reshuffle since Mr Modi assumed charge for a second term in May 2019, was a surprise. Mr Prasad, holding charge of the Information and Technology Ministry, caught in the ongoing battle with social media giants like Twitter and WhatsApp over the new IT rules, was dropped. As Ravi Shankar Prasad was at the loggerheads with Twitter the Twitter handle co-related the same angle while trolling the outgoing law minister.

While the exit of Prakash Javadekar was more happily embraced by the opposition sympathizers than the ruling government supporters. Prakash Javadekar was considered as the most sluggish among all the union cabinet ministers as he was mostly seen promoting books of left-liberal authors like Saba Naqvi and displayed the least interest in keeping a vigilant eye on the anti Hindu content being shocased on various platforms according to the core BJP voters. The former Information and broadcasting minister was mocked by the social media warriors in the following way.
