Pak violated all norms of human rights of Jadhav's family: Swaraj

Pak violated all norms of human rights of Jadhav's family: Swaraj
, Thursday, 28 December 2017 (13:44 IST)
New Delhi: India on Thursday said Pakistan had violated all norms of civility and humanity and the understanding reached with it by the insulting manner in which it conducted the meeting of Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother and wife with him.‘’Suhagano ko vidhawa ki tarah pesh kiya gaya’’( Married women were made to look like widows),’’ External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said while making a statement in both Houses of Parliament on the December 25 meeting of the Indian national on death row in Pakistan with his family.

She said India had lodged a strong protest to Pakistan over the humiliation heaped on Jadhav's family, and conveyed its concern over his well-being through diplomatic channels. The Minister said the mother and wife, after their return, conveyed to her that her son appeared under considerable stress and was speaking in an atmosphere of coercion.

‘’While the meeting could have been a step forward, it is a matter of great concern that there was a departure from the agreed understanding between the two countries on this issue. She said the family members were taken for the meeting through a separate door without informing the Deputy High Commissioner of India, who had accompanied them for the meeting, because of which he could not see that they were being taken for the meeting after changing their attire and removing their bangles, bindi and mangal sutra.

Moreover the family was harassed by the Pakistani media through use of offensive language, she said.‘’The emotional moment between a mother and her son, and wife had her husband after a period of 22 months, was misused by Pakistan as an instrument to further its propaganda.'The meeting of Mr Kulbbushan Jadhav with his mother and wife was portrayed by Pakistan as a humanitarian gesture. However, the truth is that both humanity and compassion were missing during the meeting,' Ms Swaraj said. (UNI)
