Srinagar:Pakistan troops on Monday violated ceasefire and resorted to indiscriminate shelling and firing at forward posts in border town of Karnah in frontier north Kashmir district of Kupwara.

This is the third incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops during the last 24 hours. Official sources told UNI that Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing, targeting forward posts and civilian areas at Karnah on Monday.

They said appropriate response was given by Indian soldiers in both the areas. However, the damage suffered by Pakistan troops was not immediately known.

On Sunday, a soldier, identified as Sandeep Yadav, was injured when Pakistan violated ceasefire and resorted to shelling, targeting forward posts at Bakhtoor in Gurez. Pakistan troops also violated ceasefire in Tanghdar sector in Kupwara on Sunday.

Official sources said that Pakistan troops are violating ceasefire, reached between India and Pakistan in 2003, to facilitate militants to infiltrate into Kashmir valley. "A large number of militants are waiting at launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to sneak into this side," they said.

"However, despite facing severe cold and other odds, Indian troops remained on high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) to foil any militant attempt to infiltrate into this side," the source added. (UNI)
