New Delhi: The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Union of India, on a petition filed by an IT consultant, seeking a re-investigation in the 1948 Mahatma Gandhi assassination case. A bench, headed by Justice L Nageswar Rao and also comprising Justice SA Bobde, appointed senior counsel, Amarendra Sharan, to assist the court as an Amicus Curiae in the case. Mumbai-based IT consultant, Dr Pankaj Kumudchandra Phadnis, has filed the Public Interest Litigation seeking a re-investigation in the assassination of the Father of the Nation.

Dr Phadnis, in his petition, claimed that Gandhi's death should have been probed, as there was still complete mystery about the fourth bullet reportedly fired by Nathuram Godse. "The matter should be re-investigated and have a thorough probe," Dr Phadnis contended. (UNI)
