Kolkata:The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), headed by Sourav Ganguly, is in process to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be at Eden Gardens on November 22 after his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina has formally agreed to watch the historic India-Bangladesh 2nd Test in the city.
CAB president Ganguly told reporters that they are in process to send an invitation to Mr Modi to be present at the Eden next month after Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina has agreed to attend and watch the historic India-Bangladesh 2nd Test beginning on November 22.Ms Hasina has confirmed that she will be at the Eden for the play, Ganguly told reporters on Monday.
BCCI president elect Sourav Ganguly said that he will personally invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to watch the proceedings.Ganguly said the foreign dignitary ( Hasina) will also ring the Eden Gardens' giant bell to signal the start of the play on that day, a practice started at Eden a few years ago.
The Bangladesh PM is expected to be Kolkata on November 21 and be present on the following day if every plan goes on schedule during her itinerary.Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected on November 22 in the city for a cultural programme in Kolkata.
" If everything goes well then both the PMs and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would be seen watching cricket at Eden, " said a CAB official.
Incidentally, Ganguly, who will take chair of the BCCI president on October 23, made his debut as Test captain in the same match at Dhaka's Bangabandhu Stadium in November 2000
where India won that match by nine wickets against Naimur Rahman Durjoy's team.(UNI)
