Tokyo: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Saturday on an important visit to attend the 13th Annual Summit with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.

He was given a warm welcome by the Indian diaspora.

“Landed in Tokyo. I am confident this visit will add new vigour to the strong friendship between India and Japan,” Mr Modi tweeted.

In a series of tweets, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said the Indian diaspora gave a warm welcome to the Prime Minister.

“Close to 11 PM local time but the wait was worth every moment. Proudly waving the Indian flag, the Indian diaspora in Japan enthusiastically greet PM Narendra Modi on his arrival at the hotel in #Tokyo. 2 days of hectic engagement begins tomorrow,” he wrote.

In another tweet, Mr Kumar wrote: “PM Narendra Modi arrives in Tokyo to a warm welcome for his 5th Annual Summit with Abe Shinzo”.

“Japan is one of the few countries that India has this mechanism of annual summits, reflecting the extraordinary depth of our engagement,” the MEA spokesman said.

Prime Minister Modi will travel to Yamanashi on Sunday and after day long engagement will return to Tokyo by Express Train Kaiji accompanied by Prime Minister Abe.

The Japanese Prime Minister will host a special dinner for Mr Modi in his private villa at Yamanashi. (UNI)
