PM Modi chairs high-level meeting on Afghanistan crisis

New Delhi: With Kabul being taken over by the Taliban, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the situation.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security was held at the Prime Minister's residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

It was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla were also present. India's Ambassador to Afghanistan Rudrendra Tandon, who returned to India on Tuesday, also attended the meeting.

India on Tuesday also evacuated other staff members of the Indian Embassy in Kabul. The Taliban took over the Afghan capital on Sunday.

Amid security concerns, the government has said it is constantly monitoring the developments. (UNI)
