PM Modi, other leaders condole Ram Jethmalani’s demise

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders including from legal fraternity on Sunday condoled the death of eminent criminal lawyer and former Union Minister Ram Jethmalani.

“In the passing away of Shri Ram Jethmalaniji, India has lost an exceptional lawyer and iconic public figure who made rich contributions both in the court and parliament. He was witty, courageous and never shied away from boldly expressing himself on any subject,” Prime Minister tweeted.

He further said one of the best aspects of Shri Ram Jethmalani was the ability to speak his mind. And, he did so without any fear. During the dark days of Emergency, his fortitude and fight for public liberties will be remembered. Helping the needy was an integral part of his persona.

“I consider myself fortunate to have got numerous opportunities to interact with Ram Jethmalaniji....He may not be here but his pioneering work will live on. Om Shanti,” Prime Minister wrote.

Attorney General K K Venugopal condole the demise of Ram Jethmalani. “He was perhaps the best criminal lawyers. But he would often say I am also the best constitutional lawyer”.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Home Minister and BJP chief Amit Shah visited his residence and paid their tributes to the late leader.

President Ram Nath Kovind said the nation has lost a 'distinguished jurist' - a person of great erudition and intellect.

Eminent Supreme Court lawyer Jethmalani passed away at his residence here early Sunday.  He was 95. (UNI)
