The national flag was unfurled followed by the national anthem with a booming 21-gun salute. Later, Mr Modi penned down his thoughts in the war memorial’s visitor book.

The prime minister was accompanied by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Both the leaders were joined by Chief of Defence Staff - General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Army Staff - General Manoj Mukund Naravane, Chief of the Naval Staff - Admiral Karambir Singh at the site.
