Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday inaugurate India's first-ever underwater metro route in Kolkata, representing a critical milestone in the country's infrastructure development.
The underwater service is part of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro's East-West corridor.
It will cover a distance of 16.6 km under the Hooghly river.
The metro service will connect Howrah and Salt Lake -- Kolkata's twin cities. Three out of six stations will be underground.
This will be the Deepest Metro Station and Metro line in India.
The passenger services in this route will begin from tomorrow.
Besides the underwater metro tunnel, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and the Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections.
