PM Modi voices deep concern at assassination attempt on 'friend' Donald Trump

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday voiced deep concern at the assassination attempt on “my friend” former US President Donald Trump, and strongly condemned the incident.
 
In a post on X, the PM while wishing Trump speedy recovery also said that violence has no place in politics and democracies.
 
“Deeply concerned by the attack on my friend, former President Donald Trump. Strongly condemn the incident. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. Wish him speedy recovery.
 
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, those injured and the American people.”

Former President Trump was attacked at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening. The incident occurred when shots were fired towards the stage where Trump was speaking, causing chaos and panic among the crowd.
 
According to reports, Trump was rushed off the stage by Secret Service agents after the shots were fired. The former President was seen with blood on his ear and cheek, indicating that he was hit by a bullet.
 
The shooter was reportedly killed by Secret Service agents at the scene.
 
According to reports, at least one audience member is dead, while two other attendees at the event are critically injured.
 
The FBI confirmed that the incident is being investigated as an assassination attempt.
 
Law enforcement sources told CNN the shooter was on a building rooftop just outside the rally venue.
 
Trump’s campaign has released a statement saying that he is “fine” after the “heinous act”, and thanked law enforcement and first responders for their quick action.
 
Trump said on social media that he was shot and hit by a bullet in the “upper part of my right ear”.
