Had we toed Cong track, Art 370 & Triple Talaq would not have been repealed: PM
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that his government was mandated to bring about drastic changes in Indian governance and mindset and hence the NDA regime has worked with a new determination and sensitivity.
Mr Modi also said had his government followed Congress' track, many good things would not have been achieved and Article 370 and Triple Talaq would not have been abolished.
"The people of India have not only changed the Sarkar. They want the Sarokar (functional style and mindset) to be changed as well. Had we worked according to the old ways and thought processes, Article 370 would never have been history. Muslim women would have kept suffering due to Triple Talaq," the Prime Minister said in Lok Sabha replying to the debate on Motion of Thanks to President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament.
In this context, he listed out some of the achievements of his government and said one significant part of the latest Bodo agreement is that all militant groups from the region have come forward to participate at the peace process and join the mainstream.
"We have brought a new dawn for the people of north east. New morning has come and there is fresh light," he said.
The Prime Minister said all the members of Parliament should dedicate themselves in the current session to work on economic issues.
He said the criticism of his government reflects that the opposition leaders also repose faith in his government."You all know, if anyone can deliver, it is my government," the Prime Minister said.
"Despite many efforts, the Bodo issue was unsolved for years. The Bodo Accord signed now is special because it has brought all stakeholders together and we are moving towards a more peaceful era," he said.
He said it is due to the works of his government that the Northeast is becoming a growth engine.
"Great work has been done in so many sectors. Ministers and officials are regularly visiting the region," he said.The Prime Minister also said it is due to the speed of this government that in the last five years.
"Thirty seven crore people got bank accounts, 11 crore people got toilets in their homes, 13 crore people got gas connections and two crore people got their own homes," he said.
"India can no longer wait for problems to remain unsolved. And, rightfully so. That is why, our aim is - Speed and scale and also determination and decisiveness,'' the Prime Minister asserted.
The BJP-led regime is working with sensitivity and trying to bring in solutions, he said.Taking potshots at Opposition, he said, "....Gandhiji is Life for us". He said the government will give focus on job creation; but "we will ensure that your joblessness (days out of power) does not end".
PM takes dig at Sonia, Rahul for showing 'disrespect' to Constitutional norms
New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took a dig at Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi for showing disrespect to constitutional provisions and at the same trying to raise the issue time and again to attack his government.
"Congress should raise the slogan Sambhidhan bachao, Sambhidhan bachao (Save Constitution) on daily basis hundred times. This is because none other than the Congress tried to suppress constitutional provisions more," Mr Modi said in the Lok Sabha.
"These are the same people who did not remember the task of protecting Constitution during Emergency....," he said.
"It is the same party which brought in changes in Indian constitution most of the time. It is the who had dismissed the elected state governments number of times. It is the same party and people who had torn off the copy of the Ordinance passed by the union cabinet," he said in reference to the conduct of Rahul Gandhi when Manmohan Singh was the prime minister.
Mr Modi also said, "These people ought to take lessons on the importance of the sanctity of Indian Constitution" and in reference to Sonia Gandhi's alleged extra constitutional powers during UPA dispensation, the Prime Minister maintained. "There was a powerful body National Advisory Council which had more powers than PM and the then PMO. A government was run by remote control".
"Who stopped to implement Indian Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir ?," he asked while replying to the debate on the President's address.
He also took dig at Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and tried to remind him that he has been a 'son-in-law of Jammu and Kashmir' and thus should understand the importance of implementing Constitution in the northern province.
Taking potshots at Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Prime Minister said - the senior lawmaker is showing so much of enthusiasm as if he is now a brand ambassador of 'Fit India Campaign'.
Slamming Congress for its alleged Muslim appeasement politics, Mr Modi said, "For them this section has been only Muslims, but for us these people are Indians".
In this context, the Prime Minister said right from the likes of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and freedom fighter Abdul Ghaffr Khan, for the BJP and the NDA government, everyone is Indian first.(UNI)
