Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have condoled the untimely demise of singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, in the city here on Tuesday night
"Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK," said Modi on his twitter account.
"His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti," the Prime minister said in his condolence message.
"The sudden and untimely demise of the Bollywood playback singer KK shocks and saddens us," said Banerjee.
"My colleagues have been working from last night to ensure that all requisite support is given for necessary formalities, his rites and to his family now. My deep condolences," said Banerjee.
The singer, who gave voice to different Indian languages, during the last three decades died at 53.
He gave a performance at Nazrul Mancha in South Kolkata on Tuesday and later went to his hotel where he fell ill.
He was brought to a hospital in the city where he was declared dead.
