New Delhi: President Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today led the nation in celebrating Dussehra by participating in the traditional function at the historic Red Fort maidan here. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that Dussehra gave one an inspiration to annihilate all forces of destruction in the society.
He also called for using the occasion to make a resolve to contribute something positive to the development of the country by 2022 when the country would be celebrating 75 years of its independence. The function was also attended by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, BJP chief and a large number of Union Ministers and other distinguished people from different walks of life.
Soon after arrival at the venue, President Kovind, Mr Naidu, Mr Modi, and Dr Singh performed aarti of ‘Ram’, ‘Laxman’ and ‘Hanuman’ before burning Ravan’s effigy. Some scenes from Ramlila were also enacted by actors on the occasion. Meanwhile, reports of celebration of the Festival, which symbolizes the victory of good over evil, have been received from various parts of the capital and across the country. (UNI)
