President Kovind pays rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 151st birth anny
New Delhi:President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 151st birth anniversary at his memorial at Raj Ghat here on Friday morning.
Remembering Bapuu on the occasion, the President, in a series of tweets, spoke about Mahatma's life and works for the mankind and also called on people to take lessons from his life with respect towards dealing and facing pandemic times that are going on.
''Gandhiji has so much more to offer to us if we take lessons from his life, particularly when we are facing a pandemic. During the outbreak of a deadly plague,he flung himself into health care and sanitation duties that exemplified his selfless service,'' President Kovind said in a tweet.
''The 151st anniversary is a good occasion to think through our priorities in the light of Gandhiji's life and thought, and prepare ourselves again to hear his voice in our hearts,'' another tweet by Mr Kovind sa.
''The year-long celebrations of his 150th birth anniversary that culminate today have been an apt occasion to rejuvenate his memories and reorient the moral and ethical foundations of public life.Gandhiji shows, in great detail, what needs to be done - by individuals, organisations and nations - to achieve peaceful coexistence, sustainable development, economic and social equality,''the President said.
''Gandhiji was more concerned about his duties than his rights, and took up cudgels on behalf of others - Dalits, peasants, labourers, women and others.This constant effort to be a better human being and to be more sensitive towards those around him made him a Mahatma. This path was, of course, extremely difficult. There were many failures along the way. But he continued doggedly, one step at a time.,'' tweeted the President.
Vice-Prez pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries
New Delhi:Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries.
Taking to twitter, Mr Naidu said ,''On #InternationalDayOfNonViolence let us spread the message of peace, love and compassion. Let us learn to resolve our differences and disagreements through dialogue & discussion.''
Quoting Mahatma in one more tweet, he said, "I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent." These sagacious words of #MahatmaGandhi continue to remain relevant today in a world increasingly affected by strife and violence, he added.
The Vice-President also remembered former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary is on the same day as Mahatma Gandhi's.
Remembering the son of the soil Shastri ji, the Vice-President in a tweet said, ''His clarion call of "Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan" energised an entire nation to fight internal and external threats faced by the nation.''
