Srinagar: A suspected kidnapping involving two minor girls in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir turned out to be a hoax, as the girls had allegedly fabricated the story to skip school, police said.
Police Station Pulwama had received a complaint on April 7 from a Ratnipora Pulwama resident, alleging that an unidentified Alto driver had attempted to abduct his 10-year-old daughter and her classmate while they were on their way to school.
Following the complaint, an FIR under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered, and an investigation was launched.
“During investigation, the statements of parents and minor girls were recorded by CWC (Child Welfare Committee) and before the court, where they stated that no one had kidnapped them and they went to Nadoo from Ratnipora by foot,” a police statement said.
Police said CCTV footage from the area was also collected, which indicated that neither any vehicle had forcibly picked them up nor had they been kidnapped.
"They gave statements to avoid going to school, and their parents then corroborated the same," police said.
