Moga: During the Punjab Assembly elections, the Election Commission on Sunday seized actor Sonu Sood's vehicle when he was allegedly going to the polling booths in Moga assembly constituency.

Sonu Sood's sister Malvika Sood is contesting from Moga assembly seat as a Congress candidate. Sonu Sood is accused of allegedly trying to influence voters by visiting villages and polling stations in the area.

The polling agent of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had complained to the Election Commission that Sonu Sood, being a celebrity, could influence voters. On receiving the complaint, the commission team chased and seized his vehicle and sent him to his home in a government vehicle.

The commission directed Sood not to go to any polling station and stay at home. Sonu Sood's personal car has been parked in Thana City One.

Notably, Sonu has been campaigning for his sister for a long time. He has rubbished the allegations against him of influencing voters. He said he was taking information about the voting from the party supporters.

Sonu Sood later tweeted on social media and accused the candidates of political parties of allegedly influencing voters and buying votes and demanded the Election Commission to take strict action in this regard. He has also tagged the state's Director General of Police and Moga Police with his tweet.

Meanwhile, according to Moga District Deputy Commissioner Harish Nayar, a report on the entire episode has been sought from the Senior Superintendent of Police and strict action will be taken if the allegations are found to be true. (UNI)
