Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann diagnosed with leptospirosis; What is it? Causes, Symptoms

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's blood tests for leptospirosis came back positive, said Fortis Hospital.

CM Mann was admitted to Mohali Hospital on Thursday.

A health bulletin issued by the hospital said, "As suspected at the time of admission for tropical fever, his blood tests for leptospirosis came back positive. The Chief Minister has already been put on appropriate antibiotics. All clinical features and pathological tests have shown satisfactory improvement."

According to the statement, Fortis Hospital's Director and Head of the Department of cardiology Dr RK Jaswal examined Chief Minister Mann on Saturday. He stated that the Chief Minister had shown signs of significant improvement in his clinical parameters. He has also responded well to the treatment for an increase in pulmonary artery pressure.

"At present, all vitals of the Chief Minister are completely stable", the statement added.


What is Leptospirosis?
 
Leptospirosis is caused by an infection with the spirochete bacterium Leptospira. This bacterial infection can affect both humans and animals.

It is most often spread through exposure to the urine of infected animals either from direct contact or from contact with soil or water contaminated by the urine.
