Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday announced that the sister of deceased farmer Shubkaran Singh will be given a government job along with a financial assistance of Rs one crore to the aggrieved family.

He described it as a humble gesture towards the family of the 21 year old Shubkaran Singh, who died during the ongoing farmers' protest at the Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana allegedly after a clash between security forces and the protesting farmers. The protesting farmers' unions and some anti-BJP political parties have claimed he was killed in police firing.

Mann said the state government is solidly by the side of the bereaved family in its hour of crisis.

He reiterated the firm commitment of the state government to put the perpetrators of the gruesome murder of the young farmer behind the bars. He said exemplary punishment will be given to those responsible for the death of the youth.

Mann bemoaned that the young farmer fell prey to the ‘bullet of hatred’ when he was merely exercising his democratic right adding that the people responsible for this heinous crime deserve no leniency and will beduly punished for their sin.

Mann said after an investigation, an FIR will be registered against the people responsible for the death of the youth.

He said the state government is fully with the food growers of the state who have been unduly stalled, by the forces inimical to the state, from going to the national capital for peaceful protest to claim their genuine demands.

He said it was "unjustified, unwarranted and intolerable" as Punjabis are being targeted despite their immense contribution in the freedom struggle, making the country self-reliant in post-independence days and then safeguarding the borders of the country.
