Mumbai: Maratha Kranti Morcha, who had given a call for “Maharashtra Bandh” to press for reservation of Maratha community in higher education and government jobs, called off the Mumbai bandh on Wednesday.

Virendra Pawar, convener of Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM), in a press conference said the agitation was being called-off concerning the safety of Mumbaikars.

The Maratha leader said that he was upset with the way the protests were handled by the state government and would decide the future course of action in a few days.

The pro-reservation outfit had given a call for “Maharashtra Bandh” on Monday.

The protest boiled after a 27-year-old Maratha youth Kakasahib Shinde, committed suicide by jumping into Godavari River at Kaygaon taluka on Monday in support of the demand.

Several vehicles were torched by the violent mob in several parts of the state in last two days. As a result, the State Transport Service buses were suspended by the Maharashtra government in many parts of the state as a precautionary measure. (UNI)
