Rags to Riches: MDH owner Dharampal Gulati passed away at 98

New Delhi:Owner of the famous spice company MDH Masala Dharampal Gulati passed away Thursday morning at a city hospital. He was 98.

According to sources, Gulati, who was undergoing post Covid-19 treatment at Mata Chanan Devi hospital for the last three weeks, suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed his last at 0530 hrs.
 
He was born on March 27, 1923 in Sialkot, now Pakistan.After partition, he came to India along with his family, with just Rs 1500 in his pocket and took up the job of a tangewala(horse-cart puller) before venturing into spice business.His business flourished and the company today has 18 factories across India and Dubai. 

Prez condoles MDH owner's demise

President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday expressed sadness at the passing away of MDH Spices owner and brand ambassador Dharampal Gulati, who died in a Delhi hospital of a heart attack at the age of 97.
 
In a message condoling his death, Mr Kovind said Dharmapal Gulati was "a well-known personality of the Indian industry. His work done for social service is also commendable. My condolences to his family and fans."
 
Due to his appearances in advertisements promoting his brand of spices, he became famous and a household name. He was awarded Padma Bhushan last year.(UNI)
