Ram Navami violence: Union Minister Babul Supriyo booked for violating Section 144

Ranigunj: An FIR was registered against Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Babul Supriyo on Wednesday for violating Section 144 of the Cr PC in the Asansol-Raniganj area where the situation continued to remain tense following violence over a Ram Navami procession. The FIR was lodged at the North Asansol Police Station.

Earlier, Babul Supriyo and BJP's women wing leader Locket Chatterjee were today denied entry into trouble- torn Ranigunj as police told them not to visit the coal belt industrial town of West Burdwan where Section 144 CR PC has been in force since Monday last following group clashes.

While Locket Chatterjee demanded imposition of Presidential rule in West Bengal, claiming that the law and order situation was out of gear and the common people have been the worst sufferers, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Babul Supriyo said it was high time for deployment of central para-military forces to restore order in Ranigunj. 

He said being the local MP of Asansol he was being prevented from meeting the people by the state administration. Babul Supriyo alleged the local administration had failed to restore order. He demanded deployment of central forces to save the common people from the terror of goons.(UNI)
