New Delhi: Ramayana fame actor Arun Govil, who essayed role of Lord Ram in the TV serial, on Thursday joined the BJP.

BJP general secretary Arun Singh handed over the party’s membership slip to Govil at a brief function at the party headquarters and presented him an ‘angavastram’ (stole).

Union Minister Debashree Chaudhary was also present on the occasion.

Addressing on the occasion, Govil said, “After Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over the leadership of the country, all the definitions of politics have changed. There has been a positive change.”

Govil said he has come into politics according to the same strategy.

After contributing to the social sector through the Ramayana, Govil said with the will of God, he is associating with the BJP, the best platform available to contribute to nation-building.

Govil attacked Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the occasion and said that Ms Banerjee objects to ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan. It is not a political slogan but an expression of life’s ideals and religion, he said.

With Govil’s inclusion into BJP fold, the party is seen aiming for right-wing voters in Assam, Puducherry, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, where elections will be held starting March 27. (UNI)
