Farrukhabad (UP): An accused allegedly involved in the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in the town was killed on Friday in an encounter with the police.
The police said their team set up a trap after a tip-off. The accused opened fire at the police, which retaliated, injuring the suspect, police said, adding he was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The accused was identified as Manu, a resident of Mohammadabad Kotwali.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Aarti Singh, the police were looking for the accused for several days. Many cases such as murder and kidnapping were registered against the accused.
An 8-year-old girl who had come to her maternal grandmother's house in Kotwali Mohammadabad went missing on June 27. Her body was found in Bhogaon, Mainpuri, the next day on June 28.
The SP deployed more than six teams to arrest the accused. The suspect was identified through CCTV, Singh said.
