Remote control-run UPA govt did not help Raman Singh in fight against Naxalism: PM Modi
, Sunday, 18 November 2018 (14:04 IST)
Mahasamund: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the erstwhile Congress-led UPA regime of not cooperating with the Raman Singh government in Chhattisarh in his fight against Naxalism.

“There was a remote controlled government....and the remote was in the hands of a family who only has dislike for BJP,” Prime Minister said addressing an election rally here.

He said the BJP Chief Minister Raman Singh “could not function” effectively between 2003 and May 2014 due to Congress regime's indifference as the UPA government in Delhi did not even consider Chhattisgarh as part of India.

“I have experienced this as BJP Chief Minister of Gujarat and similarly Raman Singh faced this problem,” he said adding the state government in Chhattisgarh got a cooperative regime in centre only after his (Modi government) came to power in 2014.

Lashing out at the dynastic politics of Congress, he referred to the episode in 1990s when Sitaram Kesri was “thrown out” as the Congress president and was replaced by Sonia Gandhi.

“One family has been ruling for four generations in Delhi, but it has not helped the common people of India,” Mr Modi said.

Prime Minister accused Congress of making false promises to the electorate of Chhattisarh and said the grand old party had promised loan waiver for farmers in Karnataka, but the JD(S)-Congress coalition government has not implemented the same so far.

Instead, the Prime Minister accused the farmers in Karnataka who could not replay loan amount are being jailed.

He said BJP-led NDA government in the centre is working overtime to help the cause of the farmers.

Pointing out that Chhattisgarh, which attained statehood in 2000, will be turning 18 years soon and thus it is pertinent for the people of the state to ensure a government which will work sincerely for the people in proper coordination with the centre, he said.

Urging the youths to vote for the BJP, Mr Modi said the younger generation should also keep in mind who and which party (that is the Congress) have in the past kept their elders and previous generations in poor conditions. (UNI)
