New Delhi: In a landmark judgement, the nine-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court today held that right to privacy was a Fundamental Right. A nine-judge Constitution Bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Jagdish Singh Khehar, passed the order after hearing in detail the arguments from various petitioners and respondents.

The Supreme Court in its order overruled MP Sharma and Kharak Singh judgement and held that right to privacy was a fundamental right under Article-21 of the Indian Constitution. Soon after the pronouncement of the Judgement, senior lawyer of the Supreme Court, Prashant Bhushan said that it was a good judgement. "It is a good judgement.

There should be a reasonable restriction," Bhushan said. There are lawyers, who are connected and not connected remotely to the case were present to witness the historic judgement's pronouncement. The CJI Khehar, who is going to retire on August 27, read out the Judgement only. (UNI)
