New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari today accepted the resignation of BSP chief Mayawati from the Upper House, official sources said. The sources said the resignation of the BSP chief was accepted after it was send in the prescribed format.

Ms Mayawati had on July 18 send her resignation to the Chairman in protest against not being allowed to speak in the House on the issue of lynching of Dalits and minorities and constant disruptions of her submission by Members of the ruling party. However, no action was taken on her letter as sources in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said it was not in the prescribed format. It is only after the letter was resend in the prescribed format that the resignation was accepted by the Chairman. (UNI)
