Sand mining row: Punjab Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh resigns

Chandigarh: Punjab Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh has stepped down from his post for allegedly pocketing sand mine contracts worth crores on his staff's names.

Mr Singh has submitted his resignation to state Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who will take a final call on it.While confirming the development, the Minister said that in his meeting with the Chief Minister last month, he had offered to resign on moral grounds.Mr Singh was under fire ever since it emerged that a firm which bagged sand mine contracts in Nawanshahr had his former employee as a working partner.The development comes close on the heels of the ED issuing summons to him and Opposition cornering the government over the auction row. (UNI)
