SC nixes convict of Nirbhaya case Pawan Gupta's curative plea

New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the curative petition filed by Nirbhaya case death row convict Pawan Kumar Gupta seeking commutation of his death sentence.
The Apex Court also rejected the application for stay on execution of Gupta. The execution of death sentence is scheduled to take place on March 3 at 0600 hrs.
 
A five judge bench of the Apex Court was hearing the matter.The bench comprising Justices N V Ramana, Arun Mishra, R F Narima, R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan held that no ground was made out for interference.
 
"We have gone through the Curative Petition and the relevant documents. In our opinion, no case is made out within the parameters indicated in the decision of this Court in Rupa Ashok Hurra vs. Ashok Hurra & Another, reported in 2002 (4) SCC 388. Hence, the Curative Petition is dismissed", the order read.
 
All the curative petitions filed by the convicts in this case are dismissed now and this was the last legal remedy available for Pawan.(UNI)
