New Delhi: The Hindi Film, Padmaavat, would now be screened across the country, with the Supreme Court on Monday refused to modify its earlier order.The apex court's earlier order of January 18 was challenged by the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh Governments, and they had sought modification in the order.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta, appearing for the state of Rajasthan, argued before the Supreme Court that he was not asking for the ban on the film." I have moved the apex court for certain modification of the top court's earlier interim order, Mehta submitted to the court.
To this, the apex court three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, observed, people must understand that there was a statutory body, and also we had passed an order."We are not going to modify our earlier order," the three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by CJI Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, said."States must ensure that law and order must prevail," the Supreme Court added.
