New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that daughters will have equal rights as sons over the  parental property even if the father died before the Hindu Succession (amendment) Act 2005 came into force.
A three-judge bench of Justices Arun Mishra, S Abdul Nazeer and MR Shah, while explaining the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005, said "Daughters cannot be deprived of their right to equality conferred by Section 6 of the Act."

Mr Mishra asserted that "Daughter is always a loving daughter for the rest of their life."
The amendment came into effect on September 9, 2005. The courts considered this as cut-off date to decide please by daughters seeking equal rights as coparceners as sons in their father's estate. It has nothing to do with marriage. (UNI)
