Sedition row: Umar Khalid’s rustication and Kanhaiya Kumar’s fine upheld

New Delhi: The high level committee of JNU has upheld the rustication of Umar Khalid and monetary fine of Kanhaiya Kumar in the sedition case filed against the duo.It is to be noted that former AISA president Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid organized the death anniversary of terrorist Afzal Guru in JNU premises on Feb 9th 2016. As per the videos many anti national slogans were also chanted. (Pic- Youtube)
The panel, which included five members also slapped fine on 13 other students who were part of this gathering. Later the students approached the high court. The High Court ordered the committee to review the decision. The panel stood by the decision to rusticate Umar Khalid and a fine of 10,000 rs on Kanhaiya Kumar. However the fine of some students has been reduced. (WD)
