Mumbai: Extending the rally on Wednesday, the BSE Sensex opened at a new high of 77543.22, rising 242 points as buying was seen in financial services and health care stocks.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 72 points at 23,629.85.
The Sensex registered intraday highs and lows at 77,581.46 and 77,332.20 points, respectively.
The NSE registered days high and low at 23,630.85 and 23,532.10 points, respectively.
The midcap fell by 0.47 pc and the smallcap by 0.68 pc.
In 30 scrips, 11 advanced while 19 declined.
The gainers were IndusInd Bank by 2.44 pc to Rs 1543.90, ICICI Bank by 1.69 pc to Rs 1142.05, Axis Bank by 1.05 pc to Rs 1203.70, and Kotak Bank by 1.04 pc to Rs 1737.55.
The losers were Titan by 2.62 pc to Rs 3492.30, L&T by 1.02 pc to Rs 3650.95, NTPC by 0.92 pc to Rs 366.40, and Bajaj Finance by 0.87 pc to Rs 7267.55.
