Sentry opens speculative fire, not confirmed militants attack in Uri: Police

Srinagar: An alert sentry opened speculative fire after noticing some suspicious movement near Army Artillery Unit in border town of Uri in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on late Sunday night, a police spokesman said here on Monday.

 
However, he said there was no attack or firing on the Unit and there was also no confirmation about the presence of any militant in the area.During night hours on Sunday Sentry of Army Artillery unit at Rajarwani Uri detected some suspicious movement around the camp and opened fire, he said. 
 
Area has been immediately cordoned and is being searched jointly by Police and Army, he told UNI. He said two people have been spotted in near by Nallah who are being checked out.
He said there has been no attack and no fire from other side. Just speculative fire by Sentry seeing suspicious movement. "No confirmation of any militant as of now," he said.

About 20 Army personnel were martyred in a fidayeen attack on their camp in Uri in September 2016. Four fidayeen were also gunned down in the encounter.(UNI)
