Sharad Yadav says decision to join hands with BJP 'unfortunate'

Sharad Yadav says decision to join hands with BJP 'unfortunate'
, Monday, 31 July 2017 (15:44 IST)
New Delhi: Days after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar joined hands with the BJP, senior JD-U leader Sharad Yadav today broke his silence and said the decision to part ways with the RJD and Congress was "unfortunate". "I don't agree with the decision, its unfortunate. Breaking an agreement with people was a big thing as they had voted in favour of Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance)," Mr Yadav told reporters here.

Last week, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury had met the JD(U) veteran. It was said that both Mr Azad and Mr Yechury discussed with Mr Yadav the political developments in Bihar and the leaders in the Opposition camp got the impression that Bihar Chief Minister Mr Kumar did not take Mr Sharad Yadav, a former JD(U) chief, into confidence.

It seems all is not well in the party as Ali Anwar and a Kerala leader and a JD(U) Member of Parliament Veerendra Kumar have also expressed their reservation for the tie-up with the saffron party. Senior Parliamentarian Sharad Yadav in last six months has been working hard with Congress and the Left parties to forge a strong anti-Modi alliance especially in the context of Presidential election. Mr Yadav is the JD(U) leader in the Rajya Sabha and 10 party MPs would be playing important role in the August 5 voting to elect vice-president. (UNI)
