Sharp shooter Bajrangi shot dead inside Baghpat Jail

Baghpat: In a daring crime inside a jail in Uttar Pradesh, dreaded sharp shooter was shot dead by allegedly by one of the jail inmate in Bhagpat district jail on Monday morning.
Prem Prakash alias Munna Bajrangi had come to Baghpat from Jhansi jail to appear in an extortion case. An inmate shot him dead on Monday morning, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Law and Order Praveen Kumar told UNI.
 
Authorities have suspended four Baghpat jail officials including the Jailor and Deputy Jailor in connection with the murder of Bajrangi.
 
The DIG said that a judicial probe has been ordered in the murder and hinted that gang members of one Sunil Rathi could be behind the killing.
 
The deceased was slated to appear in a local court in Baghpat on Monday morning in an extortion case.
 
Alleged to be involved in atleast 40 killings in the state and the main accused in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnand Rai in Ghazipur in 2005, Bajrangi was in the jail for nine years.
 
On June 29 last, wife of dreaded sharp shooter Bajrangi, Seema Singh had urged UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to intervene over the threat to life of her husband.
 
Seema had alleged that senior police officials and UP ATS and STF were conspiring to kill her husband. "Police officials would kill my husband in a fake encounter when he comes out of the jail to appear in the court," she had alleged.
 
His wife also alleged that a few days back Bajrangi was attacked inside the Jhansi jail.She also alleged that some politicians and businessmen were also hatching conspiracy to kill her husband.
 
She said that Bajrangi had informed the court about the threat to his life and even given names of suspects to the concerned court," she said.
 
Bajrangi was in jail since 2009 for the murder of MLA Krishnanand Rai in 2005. Munna was arrested from Mumbai after UP police announced a reward of Rs 7 lakhs on his head.
 
Bajrangi had contested the UP assembly elections in 2012 from Mariyahu seat in Jaunpur district as a joint candidate of the Apna Dal and the Peace Party. He came third, bagging 12 per cent of votes.(UNI)
