Soldier martyred in Kupwara encounter

Srinagar: An Army soldier was martyred when militants attacked a patrolling team in Jammu and Kashmir's frontier district of Kupwara on Friday, official sources said.

A Defence ministry spokesman said that the details for the encounter are awaited.The soldier, identified as Rifleman Ram Babu Sahai, was critically injured and died on his way to hospital, the spokesperson added.The entire area has been cordoned off and a massive search operation has been launched against the militants.
