Sonia hoists tricolor on Cong's 135th foundation day, party takes out flag marches

New Delhi: On its 135th foundation day, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday unfurled the tricolor at AICC headquarters here as the party started its 'Save Constitution-Save India flag march across the country.
Former party president Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, senior leaders like Motilal Vora, AK Antony also attended the ceremony.
 
The Congress president has distributed sweets to children and party workers.On the occasion of its foundation day, the Congress is taking out the 'Save Constitution- Save India' flag marches in various states along with reading preamble of the Constitution in respective languages.
 
The grand-old party is celebrating the foundation day at a time when the nationwide protests taking place against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
 
Mr Gandhi is attending various programmes in Assam to extend the party's support to the people protesting against the CAA and NRC.
 
He will also attend public rally and will visit the family of teenager Sam Stafford who was shot dead in police firing during the protest against the CAA.
 
Party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is attending various programmes in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow, on the occasion.She will also attend party worker's meeting to chalk out strategy to take on Yogi Adityanath government, where more than 16 people have been killed during the protest.
 
In his statement, party organisational general secretary KC Venugopal had said on Friday, ''Congress Party will rise to every occasion when there is challenge to the Constitution of India and any effort to derail the country from its path of progress amidst historical unemployment and pall of economic gloom''.(UNI)
