South West monsoon advances to Punjab and Rajasthan

Pune: In association with the continued prevalence of moist easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal in the lower levels since past 3 days, enhanced cloud cover and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall during past 24 hours, the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced and covered most parts of Rajasthan and Punjab, some more parts of Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh today, the 12th July 2021. IMD is monitoring continuously further progress of monsoon into remaining parts of the country.
Heat wave conditions were observed at isolated pockets over west Rajasthan.Day temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over west Rajasthan; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, east Rajasthan and east Madhya Pradesh; at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat State, west Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya; above normal (1.6°C to 3.1°C) at most places over Chhattisgarh; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim; at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at many places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema; at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana and north interior Karnataka; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka; at isolated places over Kerala, Mahe and nearnormal over rest parts of the country. The highest maximum temperature of 44.8°C was reported at Bikaner (Rajasthan).
 
Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today) at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, west Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat State, Marathwada, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha.
The Southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Marathwada; active over Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and coastal Karnataka. It has been subdued over Jharkhand, Bihar, east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
 
Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kasmir and Ladakh, Vidarbha, Saurashtra and Kutch, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at many places in West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat region and north interior Karnataka and at a few places in Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, west Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, south interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep and at isolated places in west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, east Madhya Pradesh, Rayalseema and Tamil Nadu.(UNI)
