Srinagar:Two militants were killed in a fierce encounter between militants and security forces in Nowgam bypass area on the city outskirts early Wednesday.
In Srinagar, authorities suspended mobile internet service and ordered closure of educational institutions as a precautionary measure.Train service also remained suspended in the valley for security reasons.

They said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces cordoned off a particular area in Nowgam bypass at 0200 hrs following a tip off about the presence of militants. However, when the security forces were moving towards a house, the militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.

Security forces also retaliated, ensuing a fierce encounter. Loud explosions were heard in the entire uptown from encounter site. Security forces used explosives to destroy the house from where the militants were firing.

Two militants were killed and their bodies besides weapons have been recovered, the sources said. Searches in the area and debris of the house were going on to defuse any unexploded shell, they said.

Large number of the security force and state police personnel have been deployed outside the encounter site to prevent any demonstration, they said. Mobile internet service has also been suspended in central Kashmir district of Budgam to prevent spread of rumours.(UNI)
