3 states sent reports on PFI to Home Ministry, seeks ban

New Delhi: Many  states including Karnataka, Assam and UP Governments have sent reports on  the activities of Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) to the Union Home Ministry, government sources said here on Friday.Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also confirmed the reports which have been sent to Home Ministry on Thursday while speaking at  a media conclave here.
"Politicians are not talking about the PFI's role's it is the Uttar Pradesh  Police, Assam Police and police forces of several others states who have established PFI's role in the violence", Mr Shah said at the conclave. 
 
The Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh has also said that PFI was actively involved in the violent protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and there is ample proof against them in Lucknow."PFI was actively involved in the recent violence. We have arrested 25 of their members. We have ample proof against them," DGP Singh said.
 
He had also written to the Home Ministry  requesting to ban this organization  for its active  involvement  in violence during anti- CAA protests in UP on December 19.The previous BJP led Jharkhand Government had in February, 2019 banned the PFI in the state for its alleged links with the Islamic State (IS). The PFI was banned under Section 16 of The Criminal Law of 1908.
 
The Jharkhand Government Home Department  had earlier said that  they had report that some PFI members have even gone to Syria from southern states and were working for the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS). Earlier, the PFI was also banned in the State in February 2018 but the decision was set aside by the Jharkhand High Court in August 2018, (UNI)
