Sambhal (UP): Some people pelted stones at a team of local administration and police on Sunday morning when they arrived at the Jama Masjid in Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh on a court order to conduct a survey.
Police resorted to lathi charges and fired tear shells to control the situation police sources said here.
Police sources said the court of Civil Judge Senior Division Sambhal located in Chandausi directed to survey the Jama Masjid and submit a report in the court and fixed the date of November 29 for the next hearing, following claims of the Mahant Rishi Raj Giri of Kaila Devi temple and other litigants that the Jama Masjid is the Harihar temple.
Police sources said that on the orders of the court, the team of Court Commissioner Ramesh Raghav had surveyed the Jama Masjid on November 19. "On Sunday morning at around 6:30 AM, the team reached the Jama Masjid again to survey the Jama Masjid," they said.
District Magistrate Rajendra Pensia and Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Singh and other officials also reached the Jama Masjid and a heavy police force has been deployed at the Jama Masjid.
Police arrested some people on the spot in connection with the incident. The security of Jama Masjid has been beefed up on the court's order and CCTV cameras have been installed.
