Dehradun/Nainital: Former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader Salman Khurshid's Nainital home was vandalised and set on fire on Monday, days after he compared 'Hindutva' to radical Islamist groups like ISIS and Boko Haram in his new book on Ayodhya.
Mohd Aarif, SHO of Ramgarh Police Station, said he received information that more than 20 Bajrang Dal workers vandalised and set Salman Khurshid's residence in Satkhol area on fire this afternoon.
Talking to UNI, the SHO said "At around 1400 hrs, more than 20 people vandalised his home before setting it on fire. They also misbehaved with the family members of care taker, Sundar Ram."
He said the miscreants also fired in the area, which has created panic in the locals, adding that investigation has been launched in the matter.
In his book 'Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times,' the former External Affairs Minister compared 'Hindutva' with radical Islamist groups such as ISIS and Boko Haram and described the politics of 'Hindutva' as 'dangerous', sparking controversy with many politicians criticising him for the comparison.
Slamming the attack, the Congress party said, "Violence is not acceptable." (UNI)
