Srinagar: A suspicious object found along the Srinagar Baramulla highway in north Kashmir was destroyed on Monday morning, officials said.

They said a suspicious object resembling an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), was found in a bag near Palpora Palhallan in Baramulla district, triggering alarm. Security forces promptly cordoned off the area and halted traffic on the highway as a safety precaution.

Following the discovery, a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called in to examine the object .
The BDS later destroyed the suspicious object in a controlled way, an official said, adding that traffic on the highway was later restored.

It was not immediately clear whether the suspicious object was an IED or something else.
The Baramulla Srinagar national highway is used by convoys of the Army, central armed police forces (CAPFs) and VVIPs and the road is sanitized every morning before the movement of convoys.
