Tamil Nadu: 7 engineering college students arrested for ragging 2nd year student and tonsuring his head

Chennai: In a shocking incident, seven students of the prestigious PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore were arrested on Wednesday on charges of ragging a second-year student.
 
Police said the seven accused had allegedly tonsured the head of the victim.
 
Reports said the accused had also demanded money from him for consuming alcohol.
 
The ragging incident took place at the college hostel two days ago, according to police on Wednesday.
 
The affected student, a native of Tiruppur, narrated the incident to his parents, who lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police last night.
 
Based on the complaint, police registered cases under Secs 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person, otherwise than on grave provocation), 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and under Sec 4 (penalty for ragging) of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997, and arrested the seven students today.
 
They were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. (UNI)
